I’m a street photographer living in Marin County, California. I’m currently the co-host of the Cameralabs Photography Podcast and teach photography and Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom post-processing.
I worked in audio in the ’60s. I started college in Engineering Physics but ended up getting my BA in Drama as a theatrical director and lighting designer. I went into film sound, then moved to New York and studied cinematography at the NYU Graduate Institute of Film and Television. After grad school I produced and directed documentaries, worked in TV news, then went back to the mixing console as a film sound editor.
I got tired of mixing, switched careers to computer software and started a business writing compilers, operating systems and protocol stacks in 1978. In 1984 my family and I moved back to California. I sold the business in 1996, then worked my way down the corporate ladder and was the CTO of four dot-com startups in four years. I wrote two Internet-technology books, created the IT Conversations podcast in 2003 and founded the 501(c)(3) non-profit Conversations Network in 2005.
Now officially retired, I spend as much time as possible with photography, teaching and leading photo workshops in Cuba, San Francisco and elsewhere. Much of my recent work is in medium- and large-format film and alternative processing (platinum/palladium).
